Lavoie Shines in Her First Meet as Lady Statesmen Fall to Alabama

FINAL RESULTS

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama –
The Delta State University women's swimming and diving team fell to Alabama in its season opener Friday at the Alabama Aquatics Center. Madison Lavoie earned a victory in the 100-breaststroke and 200-yard IM while also a second place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and Gillian Pratt led the way on the diving platform for the Green and White.

How it happened:
  • The Statesmen 400-medley relay claimed third with a time of 34:23:43
  • Lady Statesmen freshman Gillian Pratt took the high score in both 1-M and 3-M dives today earning a 194.85 in 3-M and 188.18 in 1-M.
  • Kyle Weesner earned the top marks for the Statesmen on the diving platform. On 1-M he scored a 260.55 and on the 3-M he earned a 256.20.
  • Caroline Jouisse claimed third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:30:34.
  • Freshman Madelyn Byrd took second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59:49.
  • For the second straight year, Brugnoni won the 100-yard backstroke over Alabama with a time of 48:44.
  • In her first ever individual race Maddie Lavoie claims first place in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:02:53.
  • In his first race as a Statesmen, transfer Matey Rezashki took third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57:34.
  • In the 200-yard breastroke, Lavoie secured another podium finish finishing second with a time of 2:18:59
  • Lavoie earned her second podium of the day with a win in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:06:70
  • Matey Rezashki earned his first win of his career in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:55:13
Notables:
  • This year marks the sixth consecutive time Delta State has faced Alabama to start the season.
  • 13 Lady Statesmen and Statesmen made their first appearance for the Green-and-White.
  • Both teams scored more points this season than they did last year against the Crimson Tide.

A Look Ahead:
  • The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen return to action Saturday, September 29, when they host Rhodes College at the DSU Aquatics Center.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
