CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State University Swimming & Diving are headed to take on the University of West Florida and Emory University on Saturday morning. West Florida will be hosting their last meet of the season on Saturday morning and will be their senior day.
Last time out the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen won their final home meet against Henderson State and then competed strong against Division 1 LSU and Incarnate Word last weekend.
Against Henderson State, The Lady Statesmen opened the night with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay swam by
Lucia Martelli,
Madison Lavoie,
Madelyn Byrd, and
Celina Batsel. The men also won the 200 medley relay with
Giulio Brugnoni,
Savio Ragonesi,
Emanuel Fava,
Mattia Schirru. Senior
Gabriel Miranda won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:45:68. Freshman
Rylee Daniels picked up a victory in the 50 yard free swimming it in 24.72.In his meet for the Statesmen,
Emanuel Fava won the 200 yard IM while also making the B-Cut for the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:51:58.
Senior
Adam Charlton won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.22. Senior
Mattia Schirru won the 100 yard free in 46.62.
Jared Ehrman won the 100 backstroke in 54.02.Another senior,
Celina Batsel won the 500 yard free in 5:08:48. Maddy Lavoie continues to earn victories taking the top spot in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02:69.
Kyle Weesner won both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives setting a school record of 361.73 on the 3 meter.
Gillian Pratt won both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives.
Hunter McCarter's score on the 3-meter (306.52) was high enough to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Against LSU and Incarnate Word, the Lady Statesmen opened the night with third in the 200 yard medley relay swam by

Madison Lavoie,
Madelyn Byrd, and
Celina Batsel. The men took second in the 200 medley relay with
Giulio Brugnoni,
Savio Ragonesi,
Emanuel Fava, and
Mattia Schirru.
Caroline Jouisse took second in the 1650 free in 17:33:97 with
Peyton Osborn taking third.
Madison Lavoie missed winning the 100 yard breaststroke by 12 hundredths of a second. She swam it in 1:03:23 while the winning time was 1:03:11.
Mattia Schirru took second in the 50 free in 20.75. Lavoie also took second in the 200 yard breaststroke.
Giulio Brugnoni won the only event for the Statesmen swimming the 100 yard butterfly in 48.89 a full second faster than anyone else.
This is the final regular season meet as the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen will get ready to host the NSISC Championships February 20-23 at the DSU Aquatic Center.
