CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to head to the Show-Me State this weekend for meets. The men will get things started with a meet against Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri on Friday, Oct. 25. Then the next day both the men and the women will take on Lindenwood in a dual meet in Saint Charles, Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 26.
This week the first CSCAA Poll came out with the Statesmen ranked at number two in the country with 114 points. The Lady Statesmen debut at number 11 with 103 points in the first poll. Every team this weekend is in the top 15 in the country for both the men and the women.
On the men's side, Missouri S&T is number 12, Lindenwood is number ten,and on the women's side, Lindenwood is number nine.
Last time out Delta State dominated Rhodes College. The Statesmen won all but two events on the day while the Lady Statesmen won all but four events on Saturday. Freshman
Carson Traylor won his first two races of his young career taking first in the 200 yard butterfly in 1:57:02 and the 100 yard butterfly in 52.29.
John Stewart won the 1000 free in 9:54:29.
Josh Armond took the win in the 500 free in 4:56:62. Peyton Osbourne won the 1000 free in 10:39:63 and the 400 IM in 4:42:20.
Madison Lavoie won two events as well taking the 100 backstroke in 59.60 and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:20:40.
Lucia Martelli won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:06:68 and the 100 yard butterfly in 56.57.
The Statesmen swept the one meter diving with a fantastic score of 319.65 for
Jawone Blankenship to lead the way.
Alex Burt took second and
Kyle Weesner took third. Blankenship made it a clean sweep of the day winning the three meter dive as well.
Gillian Pratt won the women's one meter dive with a score of 259.41. Pratt also took first in the three meter dive as well with Mackenzie Blomquist taking second in both dives.
Up next, the Lady Statesmen and Statesmen will head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to take on Henderson State on Friday, Nov. 8.
