Delta State Diving Teams Set for Third Delta Dive Invite

CLEVELAND, Miss.- The Delta State University is set to host the second annual Delta Dive Invite at the DSU Aquatics Center on Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24.

The invitational's format, meant to simulate the rigors of prequalifying and qualifying rounds at the NCAA Championships, includes 11-dive preliminaries Friday and Saturday evenings; voluntary scores were then carried over to Saturday and Sunday morning finals, which featured another round of six optionals dives. 

Besides the Lady Statesmen and Statesmen, four other school are participating. Two schoolsout of the Great Lakes Valley Conference are driving to Cleveland. Maryville University out of St. Louis, Missouri are making their second trip to Delta State to compete in both the men's and women's competition. Lindenwood is is the other school coming to participate in the invite from the GLVC. Then NSISC conference opponent, West Florida, is making the trip as well to compete in the women's only side of the invite. Finally, Oklahoma Baptist, who is out of Shawnee, Oklahoma is coming to participate for rthe first time at the Ronie Mayers Aquatic Center. The Bison of Oklahoma Baptist are a member of the Rock Mountain Athlietc Conference

Last season, the University of Indianapolis lead the way on the men's side winning the 1M and 3M finals. On the women's side West Florida had the winner on the 1M while Indianapolis had the winner on the 3M. On the men's 1M Payton Staman for Indianapolis, won the event with a score of 575.60. In second was Josh Zylstra of Indianapolis with a score of 504.95 Kyle Weesner for DSU came in third with a score of 493.25 which is a high enough score to qualify for nationals. The same three divers took the podium in the 3M but this time Josh Zylstra won the event with a score of 535.65. Payton Staman earned a score of 517.85. Weesner again claimed third with another score good enough to qualify for nationals, 478.05. For Delta State, Nicolas Martin came in fourth in both dives with a score of417.45 in the 1M and 419.80 in the 3M. On the women's 1M, Jesstina Farrell from UWF took the top spot with a score of 423.30. Cassie Kury for Indianapolis came in second with a score of 381.80. DSU claimed the third and fourth spot in the 1M. Gillian Pratt came in fourth with a score of 358.65 In the 3M finals for the women, it was Cassie Kury winning and Jesstina Farrell taking second with scores of 462.65 and 451.35 respectively. Gillian Pratt claimed a podium spot finishing in third with a score of 411.80.

On Friday it will be the Men's 3 meter and the Women's 1 meter preliminaries at 5 pm. Then in the first session on Saturday it will be the finals of the Men's 3 meter and Women's 1 meter at noon. In the evening session on Saturday at 5 pm it will be the preliminaries of the Men's 1 meter and the Women's 3 meter. Then finally on Sunday morning it will be the finals of Men's 1 meter and the Women's 3 meter. First dive Sunday morning is slated to start at 9 am.
