NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Delta State University women's cross country team has proven that academic and athletics go hand-in-hand, as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named the squad to its list of 2019 All-Academic team while senior Sarah Mumme was named to USTFCCCA's Division II All-Academic Team as an individual for the second time in her career.

"I'm very proud of the effort our team puts in on the course, but even more so in the class room," DSU head coach Doug Pinkerton said. "This is Sarah Mumme's second time to be recognized by the USTFCCCA and she is most deserving of this honor."

The Lady Statesmen posted a cumulative 3.09 GPA while Mumme, a biology major from Holcomb, had a 3.95 GPA.

To be eligible for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a program must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet during the season. In order to qualify for this honor, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade points average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championship meet.
