CLEVELAND, Miss. – Sophomore
Jake Barlow hit a grand slam to highlight a seven-run first inning to lead No. 10/1 Delta State University baseball (13-0, 6-0 GSC) to a 9-2 win over Arkansas Tech (9-7, 5-1 GSC) Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
Barlow finished the day with four RBIs including his second grand slam this season while Matt Majeur had three hits and
Hayden White two for the Statesmen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen put seven runs in the first inning to take a quick 7-0 lead. Brett Young and David Herrington were hit by pitches and Darek Sargent walked to load the bases. CJ Estave was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Jake Barlow clear the bases with his second grand slam of the season.
- Sargent gave the Statesmen an 8-0 in the fourth, belting his second home run of the season down the left field line.
- Arkansas Tech made it an 8-1 game in the sixth on a Harry Gard RBI single to centerfield.
- Delta State answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-1 lead. CJ Estave singled and moved to second on a passed ball before scoring on a Majeur single.
- ATU posted a run in the ninth when Tristan Thomas singled scored on an Evan Hafley single to center
ON THE MOUND
- Hougesen (3-0) scattered two hits and struck out two over 5.0 scoreless innings to get the the win.
- Zack Kesterson (1-2) took the loss, giving up six runs on two hits before leaving the game with no outs in the first.
- Payton Griffin gave up a run on two hits with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings in relief of Hougesen.
- Freshman Charles Darnall made his first appearance as a Statesmen, posting a strikeout while allowing a run on four hits in the ninth.
NOTEABLES
- Delta State begins a season 13-0 for the second time in school history, matching the 1996 club under Head Coach Bill Marchant. The start is also the best start under skipper Mike Kinnison.
- The win gave Kinnison 952 career wins at Delta State.
- Majeur went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while White went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk to lead the Statesmen.
- Barlow finished the day 1-for-4 with his second grand slam this season.
