School Records Fall for Statesmen on Night 3 of NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Record fell for the Delta State University Swim and Dives teams on Friday evening. The Statesmen had three school record fall in different events while Caroline Jouisse paced the Lady Statesmen with another top three finish.
Off The Starting Blocks:

  • Lady Statesmen: 9th Place | 45 points
  • Statesmen: 2nd place | 273.5 points

Inside The Ropes: PRELIMINARIES
  • Sierra Rhodes in the 500 free swam it in 5:02:79 and finished 36th.
  • Also for the Lady Statesmen in the 500 free Caroline Jouisse qualified 4th overall for the championship final with a time of 4:53:36.
  • In the men's 500 free Michael Maly finished 17th with a time of 4:28:82
  • Nathan Sawicki had a time of 4:26:20 in the 500 free setting a school record and qualifying 8th for the 'A' Final
  • In the women's 100 yard backstroke, Madelyn Byrd finished in 24th with a time of 56.33
  • Lucia Martelli also swam in the 100 yard backstroke and came in 21st with a 55.88 time.
  • After leading off the relay in the backstroke last night, Emanuel Fava swam in the 100 yard backstroke and qualified for the 'B' Final with a time if 48.03.
  • Giulio Brugnoni qualified 9th with a time of 47.48 in the 100 yard backstroke
  • Chelsea Borrowdale swam a time of 1:04:11 in the 100 yard breastroke finishing in 29th.
  • Madison Lavoie had a time of 1:02:63 in the 100 yard breastroke and qualified for the 'B' final.
  • Savio Ragonesi, in the 100 yard breastroke, swam a 55.18 finishing in 18th.
  • Danyyil Gayuk also swam in the 100 yard breastroke and did so in 56.54 and ends up in 25th.
  • Celeste Turner had a time of 2:01:99 in the 200 yard butterfly and qualified for the 'B' Final.
  • Federico Bracco, who finished eighth in the 100 butterfly had a time of 1:46:07 in the 200 butterfly and qualified for the Championship final.
Inside The Ropes: FINALS
  • Jouisse finished 3rd in the 500 free final with a time of 4:51:49
  • Sawicki had an 7th place showing in the men's 500 free 4:27:37.
  • Fava came in 12th in the 100 back in 48.45.
  • Brugnoni finished the 100 back in 46.24 setting a new school record. He won the 'B' Final easily.
  • Lavoie ended up 15th in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:02:94.
  • Turner came in 10th in the 200 butterfly swimming it in 2:01:38
  • Bracco had a 3rd place finish in the 200 butterfly just barely missing out on second with a time of 1:44:83.
  • The Lady Statesmen ended up in 9thin the 800 free relay
  • The Statesmen finished in 6th in the 800 free relay
 
 
On The Boards:
  • Kyle Weesner finished 13th on the boards with 412.90 points which was his second highest total ever at the NCAA Championships.
  • Nic Martin finished 16th with 387.15 points.
  • Hunter McCarter ended up in 17th points with 346.80 points.
Notables:
  • Nathan Sawicki broke the oldest standing record for Delta State. His time of 4:26:20 broke Adam Dajka's record of 4:27:2. That record was set all the way back in 2010.
  • Bracco's prelim time was the fastest in DSU history for the 200 butterfly. Vlad Zinca had the best finish and times in 2012 and 2015.
  • Then in the final he had the Green and White's best place ever in the 200 fly.
  • Brugnoni broke his own school record and had the best time for DSU at nationals.
