Statesmen Win Game Three Over CBU, 7-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jake Barlow and Darek Sargent combined for four RBIs to lead the No. 1 Delta State University baseball team (19-4, 11-3 GSC) to a 7-2 win over Christian Brothers University (7-17, 4-11 GSC) on Sunday at Nadicksbernd Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Statesmen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Josh Russell drew a two-out walk and later came home on a wild pitch.
  • Christian Brothers tied the game 1-1 in the bottom second. Keagan Voss singled and scored a Hunter Howard single.
  • Delta State used a three-run fourth to take a 5-1 lead. Darek Sargent delivered a two-run double and a run scored on a CJ Estave ground out.
  • Young walked and scored on a wild pitch and Jake Barlow doubled home Majeur to extend the Statesmen lead to 7-1 in the eighth.
  • Jaime Soto singled and scored on a Voss single in the bottom of the ninth to close out the scoring.
ON THE MOUND HAPPENED
  • Dalton Minton (3-1) struck out seven and gave up one run on four hits in 8.0 innings of work as the winning pitcher.
  • Griffin Miller (2-2) gave up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts as the pitcher of record for CBU.
NOTEABLES
  • Sargent went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Barlow was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
  • Minton tossed a season-high 8.0 innings and his seven strikeouts were one shy his season-high.
  • Delta State improved to 42-5 all-time at Nadicksberng Field and lead the overall series 95-10.
  • The win helped the Statesmen win the three-game Gulf South Confernce series 2-1
