CLEVELAND, Miss. –
Melvin Frazier had nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched to help the 16th ranked Delta State University baseball team (31-10, 18-8 GSC) claim an 8-2 win over No. 13 University of Arkansas Monticello (26-11) on Tuesday, April 16 at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
Frazier yielded two runs on three hits and was three strikeouts shy of his season-high 12 to notch his sixth win of the season
Matt Majeur hit a two-run home run to give the Statesmen a 4-2 lead in the sixth while DSU added two runs in the seventh and eighth to pull away for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arkansas-Monticello scored a run second to take a 1-0 lead. Dylan Borman was hit by a pitch and later scored from third on a Brodie Threet ground out.
- Delta State scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. CJ Estave singled and scored when Bradley Sanford was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Majeur was hit by a pitch and scored on a Brett Young single.
- The Boll Weevils tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth. John Mauldin walked and scored on a Jordan Johnson double.
- Delta State took a 4-2 lead in the sixth. Estave singled with two outs and scored on a Majeur home run to left.
- Two runs crossed the plate in the seventh to give the Statesmen a 6-2 lead. Young walked and came home on a Darek Sargent single and David Herrington singled and scored on a Barlow infield single.
- Delta State added two runs to increase the lead to 8-2 in the eighth. Hayden White was hit by a pitch and scored on a Herbison double and Herbison later scored on a Young RBI ground out.
- Tyler Walton and TJ Childree worked a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to close the game for the Statesmen
ON THE MOUND
- Frazier (6-3) struck out nine while allowing two runs on three hits to earn the win.
- Connor Wilkerson (0-4) gave up six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks as the pitcher of record for the Boll Weevils.
- Walton gave up a hit and had a strikeout in a scoreless inning of relief.
- Childree yielded two hits in a scoreless ninth.
NOTEABLES
- Majeur finished 2-for-3 with his fifth home run of the season and two RBIs while Estave went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Sargent, Barlow and Sanford each had RBIs for the Statesmen.
- Johnson and Rayna each went 2-for-4 to lead UAM at the plate.
- The Statesmen finished the season 12-1 against schools from the Great American Conference, including 2-0 against UAM.
