ROLLA, Mo. -- The Delta State University Statesmen swim team opened its season on Friday night with a loss against Missouri S&T University at the Gale Bullman Multipurpose Building in Rolla, Mo.
John Stewart led the way for the Statesmen with two strong swims in the distance events. He finished in second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:50.75 and came in third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.51.

INSIDE THE LANE LINES
- Emanuel Fava, Federico Bracco, Gavin Blackshear, and Tucker Schroer opened the meet with the 400 yard medley relay, finishing in third with a time of 3:34.65.
- John Stewart took a second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:50.75.
- Federico Bracco was the top finisher in the 200 yard freestyle for the Statesmen. He came in third with a time of 1:51.49, barely edging out teammate Josh Armond who came in fourth in 1:51.52.
- The 50 yard freestyle had Tucker Schroer with the best time for the Green and White, as he swam a 22.31 to place third.
- Emanuel Fava led the way with a fourth place finish in 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.97.
- Carson Traylor was the top finisher, in third place, in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.66.
- The 100 yard freestyle had Tucker Schroer with the best time for DSU with a time of 48.61, which was good enough for a third place finish.
- Fava had the best Statesmen time in a race in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.11 to come in second.
- Stewart also placed second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.51.
- Matthew States had the best time for DSU in the 200 yard breaststroke, completing it in 2:21.11.
- The Green and White came in third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:18.41.

- Matthew States earned the first win of his career, swimming the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:21.11
