CLEVELAND, Miss.
-- On Wednesday, Feb. 19, the Delta State University swimming and diving teams begin competition at the 32nd annual New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships. The four-day event will be held at the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics Center on the campus of Delta State. This will be the 20th time that the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen host the championships. DSU first hosted the meet  in 1990 and have hosted it every year since 2001.

In 2019, Lindenwood claimed the women's competition with 1,097 total points. The Lady Statesmen finished in second last season behind Lindenwood with 1,071 points. On the men's side, Delta State claimed its 11th NSISC crown in program history with 1,221.5 points. Lindenwood finished in second on the men's side with 1,018.5 points.

This year, there are six women's and five men's teams set to compete in the NSISC Championships. Besides the Lady Statesmen and Statesmen, Henderson State, a first time participant in the University of Montevallo, Ouachita Baptist, the University of Texas at Permian Basin, and West Florida.

Delta State is the only team ranked on the men's side in the CSCAA poll, as the Statesmen sit eighth in the poll. On the women's side, the Lady Statesmen are ninth in the country and the Argos of West Florida are 12th.

The Statesmen have won two of the last four meets in which they have competed. They won their third straight DSU Christmas Invitational and then defeated Henderson State in January. They also fell to LSU and Emory last month. The Lady Statesmen beat Henderson State on senior day and came in second to Emory and West Florida in January as well.

Emanual Fava broke a school record during the Christmas invitational in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:44:44. He took first in the 200 Individual medley and set the DSU pool record with a time of 1:45:69.

Madison Lavoie won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:13:97. It was the fastest time in NCAA Division II when she swam the event. She also broke the oldest Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center record, which was set by Anna Poleska from Alabama in 2004.

Preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m. each day with the finals beginning at 5 p.m. each day with the exception of Saturday's finals which are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

Each day's finals will be streamed live on GoStatesmen.com. Prices start at $8 per day for the event or a single day. A special NSISC Championships package is also available for $28. That pass gives fans access to all four days of coverage.
