CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Bolstered by victories in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay, the Delta State University women's swimming team sits in second place after the first night of the 2021 New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships at Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center.

INSIDE THE LANE LINES

• In the first event of the night, the 200 medley relay, Delta State's "A" relay team of Lucia Martelli, Madison Lavoie, Celeste Turner and Madelyn Byrd, the Lady Statesmen claimed an NSISC title with a 1:41.42.
• Delta State's "B" relay team finished ninth in 1:49.72
• In the 1000 freestyle, Sommer Rhodes swam to a bronze finish in 10:20.35. 
• Peyton Osborn (4th - 10:24.53), Victoria Brady (5th - 10:27.13), and Isabella Kelly (6th - 10:27.74) rounded out the championship final participants. Mackenzie McGuire finished 17th in 11:49.01.
• The 200 individual medley saw Lavoie capture second overall in 2:05.08, while Byrd finished eighth 2:13.83.
• The Lady Statesmen swept the podium in the 50 freestyle, as Daniella Solkow claimed an NSISC title with a 23.31. 
• Martelli (23.69) and Rossetti (24.02) finished second and third, respectively. Erin Franklin captured seventh (24.50).
• Rossetti, Solkow, Martelli and Victoria Brady captured another NSISC for DSU in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:33.65
• DSU's "B" relay team swam a 1:36.88 to finish ninth. 

NOTABLES

• Solkow's mark in the 50 freestyle set a new Delta State record, breaking Chloe Bennett's record from 2017.
