Statesmen Win Four More Events on Friday Night to Extend Their Lead

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University men's swim team won four of five events on Friday night to extend their lead in the NSISC Championships.

In the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard butterfly, the Statesmen swept the podium on Friday. Giulio Brugnoni secured the 100 yard backstroke for the fourth year in a row, the second time he has accomplished the feat in the meet.

INSIDE THE ROPES

John Stewart opened the night with a win in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.04.
Benjamin Kelly took second in the race (4:38.37) and Devin Wise was fourth with a time of 4:43.16.
Giulio Brugnoni won the 100 back with a time of 49.40.
Emanuel Fava came in third in the 100 backstroke (48.74).
Noble Reynolds won the consolation final (51.51) while Jared Ehrman was 13^th (52.92).
The Statesmen swept the 100 yard breaststroke with Savio Ragonesi winning in 55.04.
AJ Williams was second with a time of 55.88 and Danila Likitn was third (56.93).
DSU also swept the 200 yard butterfly with Federico Bracco winning it in 1:47.80.
Carson Traylor took second (1:48.60) and Nathan Garick came in third (1:50.09).
The Statesmen relay team of Devin Wise, Alex Miller, Noble Reynolds, and Nathan Garick came in second with a time of 6:58.77.

NOTABLES

Giulio Brugnoni won the 100 yard backstroke for the fourth year in a row. This is the second time he has completed the feat in the meet.
He is only the tenth swimmer in NSISC history to win one event four straight years, and is the only student-athlete to accomplish the feat twice.
