BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Delta State University Statesmen Swim and Dive closed out the 2020-21 season with a sixth place finish at the NCAA National Championships. It is their highest finish since a second place finish in 2019. It was the third best finish all-time as in 2015 they came in fifth. The Statesmen had 299 points which is the second most points in a NCAA championship meet.

INSIDE THE ROPES

• The day began with John Stewart claiming Honorable Mention All-American Honors with a 14th place finish in the 1650 free.
• Tucker Schroer then came in 14th in the 100 yard free with a time of 44.35 granting him an Honorable mention All-American recognition.
• In the 200 yard backstroke the Statesmen took the silver and bronze medal.
• Guilio Brugnoni took third with a time of 1:44.15 which was a personal best.
• Emanuel Fava was runner up. His time of 1:43.80 set a school record in the event.
• Savio Ragonesi won the consolation final of the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.00 and came in ninth.
• In the final race of the NCAA Championships, the relay team of Brugnoni, Federico Bracco, Fava, and Schroer set a school record time of 2:55.24. They earned All-American status with a fourth place finish.

ON THE BOARDS:

• Hunter McCarter came in 16th for Honorable Mention All-American with a score of 354.30.
• Jawone Blankenship was also an Honorable Mention All-American with a 14th place finish with a score of 423.50.

NOTABLES:

• It is the highest finish for the Statesmen since a second place finish in 2019.
• The Statesmen had 299 points which is the second most in a NCAA championship meet. The high is 364.5 points which was set in 2019.
