MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Delta State University Statesmen swim team defeated the University of Montevallo and the diving team defeated Birmingham-Southern College as the Green and White opened the 2022 portion of its season with a pair of wins.

INSIDE THE ROPES
- The 200 yard medley team of Berk Ozkul, Savio Ragonesi, Tucker Schroer, and Federicco Bracco won with a time of 1:34.95 and snagged a new Montevallo pool record as well.
- Jacob Brougham smahed the previous pool record in the 1000 yard freestyle, as his 9:48.91 bested the mark by over 17 seconds.
- Ozkul, a newcomer, won his first individual race for DSU, taking home first in the 100 yard backstroke in 51.84, narrowly setting another pool record.
- Savio Ragonesi was the top finisher in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.14.
- John Stewart secured the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.01.
- Alex Miller snagged a win in the 50 free 22.53.
- Bracco won the 100 yard free with a time of 47.26.
- Ragonesi also won the 200 yard breaststroke with a pool record-setting time of 2:10.53.
- Stewart also won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:50.27 with a new pool record also.
- Berk won his second race in the 100 yard butterfly and grabbed a new pool record along the way with a time of 51.06.
- Stewart won his third race of the day, with a 1:59.87, in the 200 yard individual medley.
ON THE BOARDS:
- Jawone Blankenship won the one-meter and the three-meter dive with scores of 306.07 and 287.77, respectively.
- Nicolas Stark took third in both the one-meter and the three-meter diving competitions.
