CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's swimming and diving team finish day one of three in the Thanksgiving Invite in second place, trailing conference foe Ouachita Baptist.
The men's 200-freestyle relay started with a bang, as the Statesmen would top a meet record of 1:24.74, as the team of
Michael Robinson, Jake Runyon, Brooks Butler, and
Ethan Baylin would finish second with a time of 1:21.27.
Junior
Mateus Franco would take second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:26.71 in the second straight event where the top three finishers took out the meet record.
The Statesmen would stay within reach of first on the 200-yard medley as four Statesmen would reach the finals.
Riley Oakes would finish third in another event where at least the top four finishers would grab the meet record. Oaks would finish with a time of 1:51.86
Delta State would get the top two finishers in the 50-yard freestyle, as Braylin and Robinson would finish neck and neck in the sprint. Braylin would finish the race in 20.30 seconds, as Robinson would clock in at 21.04 seconds.
To finish the night the 400-yard medley relay team of Robinson,
Jacob Hamblen,
Kacper Mochnal, and Braylin would finish in second with a meet record time of 3:20.21, as they would score 486.5 points on day one.
The Statesmen Swimmers will continue as day two of the Thanksgiving invite will start at 10 a.m., from the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center.
