CLEVELAND Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Swimming and Diving team won the 2024 Delta State University Christmas Invite, finishing the meet with a national qualifying time from their 400-yard freestyle relay team.
The Statesmen finished in first with a team score of 2133.5 points.
Day Three
Day three, consisted of two first-place finishes for the Statesmen starting with
Riley Oakes winning the A final in the 100-yard back stroke with a time of 49.14 seconds.
The Relay team of Oakes,
Ethan Baylin, Jake Runyon and
Michael Robinson finished the evening winning the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:17.04.
The Statesmen earned a lot of points with second through fifth place in the 100-yard butterfly as Robinson would finish in second place with a time of 48.89 seconds. Runyon took third with a time of 48.91.
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Mateus Franco and
Austin Huffhines took second and third place in the A final. Franco finished with a 1:38.95 time while Huffhines finished in 1:40.01.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Baylin would finish in second place in the A final with a time of 55.82 seconds.
Day Four
The Statesmen finished the invitational on a high note, winning every event in the final session. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Ethan Baylin,
Mateus Franco, Jake Runyon, and
Michael Robinson finished the meet on a high note with a NCAA national qualifying time of 2:57.39, topping the qualifying standard by seven hundredths of a second.
To start the night, Franco would win the mile with the NCAA B Standard qualifying time of 15:29.62.
Following the mile,
Riley Oakes would take first place in the a final for the 200-yard back stroke with another b standard time of 1:46.22.
The Statesmen would continue their hot streak into the 100-yard freestyle as freshman Robinson would win the A final with a NCAA qualifying b standard time of 44.06 seconds.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, freshman
Eudald Tosquella would win the A final with a 2:02.47 time.
In the final individual event of the meet, freshman
Kacper Mochnal won the 200-yard butterfly with a NCAA b standard qualifying time of 1:48.41.
The Statesmen will be back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 4 as they would travel to Montevallo, Ala., to take on the Falcons from the University of Montevallo.
