MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Delta State Women's Swimming and Diving Team started the New Year off with a 182-71 win against the University of Montevallo Saturday afternoon in the SAC Natatorium in Montevallo.

The Lady Statesmen swept the two relay races and had seven different individual swimmers have a first-place finish. Freshman
Zinna Nimander, along with juniors
Pia Delkeskamp and
Jessica Gannon won multiple individual events.

Nimander,
Kaley Davis, and
Ave Owens were on both relay teams that took first in the winning efforts.

To start the meet, Nimander, Delkeskamp, Davis and Owens kicked it off with a 1:47.70 time in the 200-yard medley relay. The Delta State team of
Olivia Murphy,
Hannah Murray,
Janne Bodemer, and
Mikayla Kloth came in second in the race.

Gannon would follow the relay, taking her first of two distance events as she swam the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:49.54. Freshman
Julia Maciak took second place followed by
Emma Greene.

Nimander and Murphy went neck and neck in the 100-yard backstroke as Nimander would edge Murphy with a 59.06 second race.

The Lady Statesmen would take the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke as Delkeskamp led the way with a 1:07.38 time. Murray took second followed by sophomore
Hannah Jones.

Bodemer would join the group of Lady Statesmen first-place finishers in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:17.69 mark.

The Trio of Nimander,
Tristen Fant, and Davis would follow Bodemer's first-place finish taking the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Nimander would grab her second individual first place finishing with a 25.01 second race. Fant finished in second in 25.40 seconds followed by Davis with a 26.35 time.

Delta State followed the 50-yard freestyle with back-to-back top three finishers in the 100-yard freestyle. Murphy, Owens and Fant would take the top three spots as Murphy won the event edging out Owens by two hundredths of a second at 55.26 seconds.

Davis and
Jordon Kloth would take the top two spots in the 200-yard backstroke. Davis won the battle with a 2:12.72 race.

Murray and Delkeskamp followed up with a first and second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Murray would win with a 2:29.63 time.

In the 500-yard freestyle race, Gannon would complete her sweep in the distance heats finishing in first with a 5:18.91 time.

In the final individual race of the afternoon, Delkeskamp would grab her second first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:12.85 time.

To finish the meet, the Delta State 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nimander, Davis, Owens, and Murphy won the race with a 1:38.97 time.

The Lady Statesmen will be back in the pool on Friday, Jan. 24, as they travel south to Baton Rouge, La., to take on the Tigers of Louisiana State University. That meeting will start at 10:00 a.m. (CDT).
