Statesmen fall to Reddies in tight dual meet

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Delta State University Men's Swimming and Diving fell on the road to Henderson State University 160-101 Friday evening in the Duke Wells Center.

Eudald Tosquella and Mateus Franco highlighted the night. Tosquella captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.67, while Franco claimed gold in the 500 freestyle (4:41.52). The quartet of Jacob Hamblen, Austin Huffhines, Sergio Rodriguez, and Ethan Baylin battled hard in the 200-freestyle relay, finishing just .14 seconds behind Henderson State with a 1:25.48.

Ethan Baylin was another bright spot, capturing the 50 freestyle in 21.11 seconds and finishing runner-up in the 100 freestyle (47.32). Jacob Hamblen picked up a big individual win in the 100 breaststroke (58.65) and helped the Statesmen to a narrow runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.48), joined by Huffhines, Rodriguez, and Baylin in one of the meet's most exciting races — finishing just .14 seconds behind Henderson State's top squad.

The Statesmen are back in the pool tomorrow as they will face the Tigers from Ouachita Baptist University.
