CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Swimming and Diving Team finished second place with 1068.5 points in the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships this week at the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics Center.
Delta State collected seven individual championships and one relay team took home a first place finish.
Day One and Two.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Jake Runyon,
Simon Pereira,
Austin Huffhines, and
Mateus Franco started the week with a runner up finish in a D2 B consideration time of 6:33.25.
In day two, Delta State got their first champion of the meet as Franco won the 1,000-yard freestyle with NCAA B Standard time of 9:12.15.
Two events later, the duo of
Ethan Baylin and
Michael Robinson would grab the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle with Baylin edging Robinson by two hundredths of a second at 20.06 seconds.
Day Three
Robinson kicked off day three, winning the 100-yard butterfly by a hundredth of a second finishing in a D2 B Standard qualifying time of 48.10.
On the diving boards,
Ryan Whaley would add to the gold count for Delta State, winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 514.60.
Riley Oakes finished third place in the 400-yard individual medley with a D2 B Consideration time of 3:54.82.
Austin Huffhines would add to his medallion collection with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a B consideration time of 1:37.71.
Day Four
The Statesmen's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Baylin, Runyon, Brooks Butler, and Robinson finished the night on top of the medal stand with a time of 1:20.20.
Freshman butterfly swimmer
Kacper Mochnal would get an NCAA nod with a second-place finish time of 1:46.96 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Franco started the night with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:27.22 B consideration time.
In the next event, Robinson finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke finishing the race in 49.07 seconds.
Baylin would get a D2 B Consideration in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing in 54.73 seconds.
Day Five
The Statesmen got two more NCAA bids in the final night as Franco would win the mile race in 15:33.64.
Following that, Robinson earned a nod winning the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 43.60 seconds.
Riley Oakes would make it three-straight conference champions winning the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:46.58.
