CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (11-25, 5-19 GSC) fell in both games of their double header against the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene (24-13, 13-13 GSC) Friday afternoon at University Field.
The Trojans took game one in a pitchers dual 3-1 and followed it up with a 5-0 win.
GAME ONE
The Lady Statesmen tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from
Calli McConnell that went over the left field fence.
Emma Enderud threw 6.2 innings pitched and did not give up an earned run against the Trojans. The Oxford, Kansas native struck out one batter and didn't allow a walk in her outing.
TNU scored first in the top of the fifth from a Lady Statesmen error to take a 1-0 lead. McConnell would tie the game up with a solo shot to start the bottom of the sixth.
The Trojans would add two more runs in the top of the seventh on an error to hold on to a 3-1 win.
GAME TWO
The Trojans took an early lead, scoring a run in the first and second innings to hold on to a 5-0 win in game two.
Bailey Way led the way on the offensive end going 1-2 on the evening with a double down the left field line in her first at-bat to lead off the bottom of the third.
Ellie Cox pitched 4.2 innings in the circle, striking out two Trojans and only allowing one earned run.
The two teams finish the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) at University Field. Delta State will host their senior day ceremony at 12:30 p.m. (CDT).
