PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Delta State men's swimming and diving team delivered a standout showing Wednesday night at the NSISC Championships, highlighted by a record-setting swim, a conference title, and multiple championship-final performances.
Mateus Franco headlined the evening in historic fashion, winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:03.37 to claim the conference championship while establishing a new NSISC record and securing an NCAA invite time.
Adam Rickert followed with an eighth-place finish, and
Austin Huffhines and
Reece Achord added valuable team scoring in the event.
In the 200-yard IM,
Riley Oakes led the Statesmen with a third-place A-final finish in 1:50.37.
Eudald Tosquella captured the B-final victory (ninth overall), while
Kacper Mochnal and
Neill Mauss contributed additional points to the team total.
Sprint action in the 50-yard freestyle saw
Ethan Baylin place third overall in 20.36 to earn an NCAA B-cut time, continuing Delta State's strong tradition in the event.
On the diving boards,
Santiago Santodomingo won the NSISC Championships on the one meter dive with an NCAA qualifying score of 503.95
The Statesmen also secured a runner-up finish in the 4x50-yard medley relay, as the group of Oakes,
Jacob Hamblen, Mochnal, and Baylin touched in 1:28.12 to add significant points in the team race.
With a record performance, a conference championship, and scoring depth across multiple events, Delta State positioned itself firmly in contention as the NSISC Championships continue toward the final days of competition.
