Lady Statesmen host the Golden Suns in a midweek doubleheader

Cleveland, Miss. - The Delta State University softball team (12-21, 6-12 GSC) will host the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech (22-8, 15-3 GAC) tomorrow in a double header beginning at 2:00 P.M. at University Field. Game two will follow approximately 30 minutes after game one. 

This is a matchup that was originally scheduled on Tuesday, March 10th.

Scouting the Lady Statesmen: 

  • The Lady Statesmen look to add momentum to their series finale win on the road at Huntsville Saturday afternoon 5-3. That win capped a ten-game losing streak against the Chargers in the series history between the two GSC foes.  

  • Last time the Lady Statesmen and Golden Suns met, the two teams split their double header last season in Russellville, Ark. The Lady Statesmen took game one of the double headers by a 3-1 score behind a three-hit performance by Kyleigh Wheaton

  • Wheaton is hitting .412 this season with 20 extra-base hits, including nine homeruns and 35 RBIs. Wheaton is looking to become the first Lady Statesmen to record double digit home runs in a season since current graduate assistant Abbi Cataldo and former graduate assistant Mycala Helms did so in the 2024 season. 

  • Carly Dunigan has also been very productive at the plate. She is hitting .389 this season with six homeruns and 27 RBIs. 

  • Maeve Lavoy has been dominant in the circle and at the plate. She is responsible for six wins while pitching, striking out 63 batters and posting a 4.53 ERA. She is hitting .422 at the plate this season. 

Scouting the Golden Suns: 

  • The month of March has treated Arkansas Tech very well. The Golden Suns on a 12-game winning streak at the moment and are 12-0 in the month of March. 

  • Aubree Jones is hitting .329 this season, while driving in 21 runs on six extra base hits. 

  • In 214 innings this season, the Arkansas Tech pitching staff posts a 2.75 ERA while striking out 158. Aly White leads the staff with 71 innings pitched.
