Seth Birdsong tossed complete game five-hit shutout with three strikeouts against West Florida to help the Statesmen claim the series sweep. The sweep was also the Statesmen fifth straight GSC series sweep (first time since 2002). The complete game was Birdsong's third of the season and his second shutout in his last three starts. The Brownsville, Tenn., native allowed three hits in the first inning and did not yield a hit until the the ninth. During the stretch Birdsong retired 11 straight UWF hitters between the second to the fifth innings. Statesmen pitchers closed out the series with a string of 19 consecutive scoreless innings that spanned from the seventh inning of game one to through game three.
