Statesmen finish in fourth place in Natural State Golf Classic

HEBER SPRINGS, Ark.-After a first round team total of 300, the Delta State University golf team shaved seven strokes off its first round total to finish in fourth place with a two round total of 593 at the Natural State Golf Classic in Heber Springs, Ark.

North Alabama claimed the team title with a -3 under par 565, 28 strokes better than the Statesmen.

Austin Smithers led the way for the Statesmen. Smithers finished in a tie for eighth place with a +4 over par 146. Seth McBrayer carded the second lowest score for DSU with a +7 149 for a 14th place tie.

Chase Smith was just behind with a +8 over par 150 for 18th place. Casey Patterson and Collin McCrary also finished with +8 over par 150 in the two round tournament.

Jordan Breaux along with Andrew Simons rounded out the scoring with two round totals of 156 and 161 respectively on the par 71 course.  

North Alabama's Brett Munson won individual honors in a playoff with a -6 under par 136.

The Statesmen will return to the course on April 20 in Hot Springs, Ark., for the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
