MEET NOTES
CLEVELAND, Mississippi - Following a pair of meets to begin the season at Division I schools, Delta State returns to the road for meets on Friday and Saturday in the state of Missouri. The Statesmen, No. 16 according to CollegeSwimming.com, will swim on Friday, Nov. 7 at Missouri S&T before the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen, No. 19, compete at Drury on Saturday, Nov 8.
Fabrice Wendel has had a dominant start to the season by picking up victories in each meet swam this season. Wendel had one of the two Statesmen victories at the University of Alabama. Has won the 100-Freestyle at both meets while also picking up a 50-Freestyle win at Western Kentucky, leading the DSU effort that claimed 10 event victories.
Vlad Zinca has a victory in the 200-Butterfly (1:54.08) while
Max Pendall won the 200-Individual Medley (1:54.98) over All-American Fabian Schwingenschlogl in the last meet.
Matthew Swaine was victorious in both the diving competitions at Western Kentucky. He won both the 1M (240.90) and 3M (240.67) after finishing fourth from both 1M and Platform heights against the University of Alabama.
Melanie Tombers won twice at WKU, the 1,000-Freestyle (10:21.01) and led the sweep in the 200-Individual Medley (2:12.13) ahead of ),
Kirsten Stroven (2:20.72), and
Ami Tipper (2:36.74). The Lady Statesmen also won the 200-Freestyle Relay with the team of
Dani Meerholz,
Hannah Core,
Erin Newman, and
Chloe Bennett (1:41.21).
Missouri S&T, ranked No. 24, has swam three times this season. The season started with a seventh place finish at the Show-Me Showdown at the University of Missouri, a meet featuring the state's ten swimming programs in a season-opening competition. The Miners defeated Lewis University in the lone home meet this season, 118-87, before finishing third from the Lindenwood Invitational last weekend.
Drury University boasts the No. 1 men's team and the No. 2 women's team. The Drury men's team took second place at the season-opening Show-Me Showdown before failing to Missouri State, 131-112. The Panthers rebounded and swept Lindenwood and Truman State on Oct. 25 to ascend to the top of the national poll. The women's program at Drury defeated Missouri State, 121-120, after a runner-up finish from the Show-Me Showdown before winning the double-dual over Lindenwood and Truman State.
