Lady Statesmen Tennis Has Been Eliminated From GSC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Delta State women's tennis team are one and done in this year's Gulf South Conference Tennis Tournament. The Lady Statesmen (8-11, 4-6 GSC) were the No. 7 seed in the tournament, while their opponent, Shorter University (15-4, 10-1 GSC), were the No. 2 seed. This is the second consecutive time that DSU and SU have faced each other, as they squared off in the final match of the Green-and-White's regular season, in which the Lady Hawks came out on top, 7-2. The tournament was set to begin yesterday, but was delayed due to rainy conditions. The Delta State was shut out in both doubles and singles competition, losing 5-0 to conclude the 2015 season.

The Lady Statesmen began the season with a record of 3-2 in non-conference action before opening up GSC play against Mississippi College, winning 5-3. After losing to the University of North Alabama and winning against Lee University, DSU went on a four game losing streak before picking up their fifth win on the season against Lindenwood University. Delta State were only able to win 2 of their last 5 matches before entering the tournament.

Departing the team this year are seniors Amanda Robertson and Sandra Tora-Martinez. Robertson played two years for DSU, while Tora-Martinez played three.
