Statesmen Edge Reddies

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Delta State University men's swimming and diving team used nine victories to edge Henderson State 151-149, on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.

Short Story: Mattia Schirru earned three victories in sprint freestyle events, while Matteo Fraschi picked up wins in both breaststroke events to help the Statesmen.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Statesmen began the meet finishing second, third and fourth in the 1-Meter diving competition. William Ashwell (256.73) was second, followed by Kyle Weesner (256.58) and Nic Martin (256.50).
DSU earned its first event win of the meet, when Nathan Sawicki (9:54.57) won the 1000-Freestyle. Michael Maly was second and Jacob Poole finished third.
Schirru picked up his first win in the 200-Freestyle, as he finished in 1:42.85. Schirru continued his winning ways with a 21.26 in the 50, and he finished up his individual program with a 46.80 to claim the 100.
Fraschi claimed the 100-Breaststroke by over four seconds, as he finished with a 56.43. His 2:05.04 was over three seconds better than Alex Peach, who finished second in the 200-Breaststroke.
Adam Charlton (1:56.28) easily claimed the 200-Butterfly, before finishing second in the 100 (51.99).
Cody Lavoie swam this season's eighth fastest 500-Freestyle (4:38.48), claiming the race by a nine second margin. A short time later, Lavoie claimed the 200-IM, as he came home in 1:57.38.

UP NEXT: DSU is scheduled to host the its Christmas Invite. The event is set to take place from December 10-13.
