CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Delta State University men's swimming and diving team used record-breaking performances in diving and first place finishes in every heat to defeat Henderson State 189-71 on Jan. 14, at the Delta State Aquatics Center.

Short Story: The Statesmen earned first place in every single event en route to a 189-71 victory over Henderson State.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Statesmen had a strong start to the meet, sweeping the top two spots in the 200-Medley Relay.
- Nathan Sawicki and Michael Maly clinched first and second in the 1000-Freestyle, finishing in 9:44.65 and 9:50.55 respectively. Henderson State's Drew Lauth edged out Jacob Poole for the third spot, preventing a sweep.
- Gabriel Miranda and Cody Lavoie earned first and third place in the 200-Freestyle.
- Senior Fabrice Wendel cruised through the 100-Backstroke, clinching first place in 53.25. He also earned first place in 100-Butterfly, with a time of 51.07.
- Senior Matteo Fraschi set the pace in the 100-Breaststroke, coming home in 54.88—almost seven seconds faster than his closest competitor.
- Adam Charlton swam the 200-Butterfly in 1:56.28, earning first in the event. Poole edged past Ben East of HSU for the third spot in 2:01.79.
- Mattia Schirru earned first place finishes in the 50 and 100-Freestyle events.
- Lavoie claimed Delta State's only top finish in the 200-Backstroke, finishing first in 1:57.09.
- Fraschi picked up his second first place victory of the meet in the 200-Breaststroke, surging past teammate Alex Peach, who claimed second in 2:08.24.
- Miranda also took first in the 500-Freestyle in 4:41.02, and Sawicki finished second in 4:45.60.
- Wendel also earned first place in the 400-Individual Medley, finishing in 4:10.89. Charlton had the second fastest time of 4:17.54.
- In the 1M diving event, Eli McBride broke the school record with a score of 332.85. Bill Ashwell finished second with a score of 297.75, and Nic Martin finished third with a score of 265.42.
- McBride also broke the school record in the 3M diving event, finishing with the top score of 346.95. Ashwell took second with a score of 320.47, and Martin earned third. Martin's score of 310.50 qualified him for Nationals.
- Delta State concluded the meet with a victory in the 200-Freestyle Relay.
- The Statesmen honored three seniors prior to the start of the meet: Alex Peach, Matteo Fraschi and Fabrice Wendel.
