Valdosta, Ga. – The Delta State women's tennis team concluded play in the ITA South Region Tournament held over Sept. 22-24 in Valdosta, Ga. The Lady Statesmen competed against some of the top teams in the South region, but
Charlotte Le Flohic and Shelby Zachry led Delta State, making it all the way to quarterfinals of the women's doubles consolation bracket, before falling to eventual ITA South Region Women's Consolation Doubles Champions Judith Bohnenkamp and Mara Cerrini of Barry University.
After dropping all singles and doubles matches on the first day of tournament, the Lady Statesmen began Day two of the ITA South Region Tournament battling to stay alive in the consolation bracket.
Sarah Nash started off singles play in the women's consolation draw for the Lady Statesmen, but was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Annemarie Kimball from Mississippi College. After dropping the first set 6-1,
Nathalia Sato tried to make a comeback, but hold on to the match, dropping set two, 6-4, to Victoria Roberts from Mississippi College. Kyra Holway lost 6-0, 6-1 to Palm Beach Atlantic's Laura Anderson, and Natalia Stelzer lost 6-6, 6-0 to Rollins' Savanna Fuller.
Le Flohic had the best chance at picking up a singles victory for Delta State, forcing Florida Southern's Natalija Popovic to go to the tiebreaker for the first set, but ultimately fell 7-6(5), 6-1 to round out singles play.
In doubles action, Sato/Stelzer lost 8-3 to Mississippi College's Brenna Keller/Annemarie Kimball, and Holway/Nash lost 8-2 to Montevallo's Maria Garcia/Alina Munteanu. Le Flohic/Zachry defeated Sofia Carrera/Victoria Roberts of Mississippi College to advance to the quarterfinals of the women's consolation bracket, but were defeated 8-0 by Bohnenkamp/Carrini. Bohnenkamp/Cerrini went on to win the consolation doubles final.
