Lady Statesmen Fall 7-2 to Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Delta State University women's tennis lost 7-2 to Gulf South Conference rival Lee University on Saturday, Feb. 24, in Cleveland, Tenn.
 
The Lady Flames took the lead after Nathalia Stelzer/Sarah Nash dropped their doubles match, 8-1. Charlotte LeFlohic and Nathalia Sato evened the score at one all, picking up a match win at No. 2 doubles. However, Francesca Tondi/Marta Garcia-Nieto defeated Jemina Sorman/Ione' Deroode to give Lee a 2-1 lead heading into the singles competition.  
 
The Lady Flames continued their momentum in the singles competition to clinch the match, 7-2. Deroode picked up the Lady Statesmen's only win in the singles competition.

Match Notes:
  • Delta State falls to 2-2, while Lee improves to 3-1.
  • The loss to Tondi snapped a three-match winning streak for Le Flohic.
  • Deroode remains the only Lady Statesman undefeated in singles action.
 
UP NEXT:
The Lady Statesmen will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a non-conference match against William Carey University scheduled on March 3, at 2:30 p.m. The Lady Statesmen will also play Jones Junior College in an exhibition match on March 3, in Hattiesburg, Miss., at a time to be determined.
