HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Reddies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Brandon Pollock, who singled to left to open the game, scored on Joseph Shepherd's ground out to short.
- Delta State tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on C.J. Estave's RBI single to center, scoring Jake Barlow, who doubled off the left-centerfield wall earlier in the frame.
- After back-to-back singles and a pair of steals by Bryson Haskins and Greyson Stevens, HSU reclaimed the lead, 2-1, as Haskins scored on a wild pitch. The Reddies plated two additional runs on an RBI single by Pollock and a throwing error by left fielder Matt Majeur to lead 4-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Statesmen took a 5-4 lead on David Herrington's grand slam to left field. Payton Lane, Weber Herbison, and Bradley Sanford all singled to load the bases for Herrington. DSU tacked on four additional runs to take an 8-4 lead after four innings of play.
- The Reddies tied the game at 8-8 in the fifth, as HSU strung together a pair of RBI hits and a sac-fly to plate four runs.
- HSU kept the pressure on in the sixth after a walk to Pollock and a failed pickoff allowed the Reddies leadoff man to pull into third with no one out, but Hodges retired three-straight to quell the threat.
- In the bottom of the eighth, the Statesmen threatened, but HSU reliever Jon Youngblood left Michael Allen stranded at third.
- The Reddies put a runner on the corners with two outs off Tyler Walton in the top of the ninth. The junior from Germantown, Tenn., worked out of the jam by recovering a ricochet off first baseman Hayden White's knee and recording the third out of the inning.
- Brett Young led off the top of the ninth inning with a double to left and came in to score on Darek Sargent's sac-fly to right-center to plate the game-winning run. Josh Russell had successfully moved Young to third with a bunt sacrifice.
