CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State University Swimming & Diving is gearing up for "Senior Day," as the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen welcome Henderson State to the Aquatics Center on Friday, Jan. 11. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Prior to the meet starting, the festivities will begin with senior day at 1:40 p.m. This season the Lady Statesmen will be honoring four seniors; and the Statesmen will honor 5 seniors.
This is the first meet back for the swim and dive teams in the new year. For the second straight year the Delta State University Men's Swim and Dive teams won the annual Christmas Invitational at the DSU Aquatics Center. The Lady Statesmen claimed second place in the meet. It was a meet for several veterans earning wins along with several underclassmen claiming victories as well.
The first senior is
Kenzie Blomquist who is from Monument, Colorado. She is the daughter of Scott and Tricia Blomquist. She has dove for the Lady Statesmen for four years and in 2017 qualified for the NCAA National Tournament. She will be graduating with a degree in exercise science.
The next senior is
Madison Foreman. Madison is from Belle River Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of Michael Foreman and Jordan Butkovich. She has swum for the Lady Statesmen for four years. She will be graduating with a degree in political science.
Next is
Grace Veselits. Grace is from Mobile, Alabama. She is the daughter of Lois and Robert Veselits. She has dove for the Lady Statesmen for four years. She will be graduating with a degree in social work.
The final Lady Statesmen senior is
Sophia Waddingham. Sophia is from Brandon, Mississippi. She is the daughter of Sharon and Chuck Waddingham. She has swum for the Lady Statesmen for four years. She will be graduating with a degree in marketing.
The first Statesmen senior is
Danyyil Gayuk. Danyyil is from Donetsk, Ukraine. He is the son of Inna and Alexander Gayuk. He has swum for the Statesmen for two seasons. Last year at the NCAA's he finished 25
th in the 100 backstroke. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team that finished third in the country. He will be graduating with a degree in exercise science.
Next is senior
Michael Maly. Michael is from White Oak, Texas. He is the son of David and Dawn Maly. He has swum for four years for the Statesmen. Last year at nationals he had earned three top 20 finishes in the 500, 1000, and 1650 free. He will be graduating with a degree in engineering.
The third senior is
Matey Rezashki. Matey is from Plovdic, Bulgaria. His is the son of Gergana and Tihomir Rezashki. He has swum for the Statesmen for two seasons. Last year at the NCAA Championship he finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke, 14
th in the 400 individual medley, and 15
th in the 200 IM. He will be graduating with a degree in business marketing.
The next senior is
Kyle Weesner. Kyle is from Houston, Texas. He is the son of Brent and Helen Weesner. He has dove for the Statesmen for four years. Last year he finished 7
th in 3-meter diving with a score of 464.90 which is the highest point total in DSU history. In the preliminaries he had 458.90. He also finished 13
th on the boards with 412.90 points on the one meter which was his second highest total ever at the NCAA Championships. He will be graduating with a degree in biology.
The final senior swimmer is
Daniel Wiseman. Daniel is from New Albany, Mississippi. He is the son of Tom and Veronica Wiseman. He has swum for the Statesmen for four years. He will be graduating with a degree in digital media arts.
The swim and dive teams will be right back in the pool on Saturday to take on LSU at 11 AM at the
Ronnie Mayers Aquatic Center.
