CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University baseball is set to host its annual July Kid's Camp at Dave "Boo" Ferriss Field beginning Wednesday, July 15 and running through Friday, July 17th.
The camp, which costs $120 and includes a t-shirt, which will last from 8 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Campers can expect to improve their baseball skills and develop proper playing habits, with a focus on learning sportsmanship and friendship. The emphasis of the three-day camp is to teach the basic fundamentals and essential skills in all phases of the game. Instruction will be divided equally between hitting, base running and defensive fundamentals. Individual attention will be given to each camper at his chosen position.
Instructional sessions will include teaching aids such as film sessions, videotape analysis, and pitching machines. Batting tunnels and mounds scaled to each age group are used in the instructional work. Intrasquad games will be played daily, where participants will have a chance to be closely observed and have any potential mistakes corrected. One of the goals of the camp is to assist campers in using their knowledge in game situations in order to develop the necessary physical and mental skills needed to succeed in the sport.
"Campers will work hard and have fun as part of a great atmosphere at camp," said head baseball coach Rodney Batts. "The camp will provide a proper learning environment for everybody, and it should be a great experience for all the kids we hope to see out at the camp coming up next month!"
