BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- On the heels of a strong performance at the UAH Charger Chillout, Delta State University softball player Olivia Burns was honored as the Pitcher of the Week in the Gulf South Conference, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Over the weekend, Burns tossed 20.2 innings in her three starts in the circle, good for three complete games.  In that span, she went 2-1 and allowed just three earned runs on 14 hits, striking out 11 in the process.  A two-way player, Burns went 1-for-2 against Carson-Newman University on Feb. 12 with a double and a walk.

On the season, Burns sports a 2-2 record 13 strikeouts, one save, and a 2.00 earned run average in 28 innings in the circle.  As a hitter, she has eight at-bats so far with two hits, one extra-base hit, and two bases on balls.

The Lady Statesmen get back to work on Feb. 19 for a doubleheader against Shorter University in Rome, Ga. to kick off the GSC season at the Alto Park Softball Complex for a noon first pitch.
