Lady Statesmen Take Second Place at NSISC Championships

RESULTS

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- 
The Delta State University Lady Statesmen swimming and diving team finished in second place at the 2022 NSISC Championships on Saturday evening.

The Lady Statesmen did take home two individual titles on Saturday evening. Alexis Moon tied for first in the 200-yard breaststroke and Madelyn Byrd won the 200-yard backstroke. The 400-yard freestyle relay also claimed first place. The Lady Statesmen won every relay race at the meet.

INSIDE THE LANE LINES
  • Jamie Glover came in second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17.11.44.
  • Daniella Solkow came in third in the 100-yard free with at time of 50.91.
  • Madelyn Byrd won the 200-yard backstroke by almost three seconds. Her time of 1:59.87 was faster than last year's NCAA invited time.
  • In the 200-yard breaststroke, Alexis Moon tied with West Florida's Brooke Simila for first place with a time of 2:20.50
  • The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tristen Fant, Solkow, Martina Rossetti, and Celeste Turner came from behind and won with a time of 3:25.19.
ON THE BOARDS
  • Gillian Pratt finished in fifth with a score of 383.35 on the one-meter dive.
  • Hannah Babcock came in sixth on the one-meter dive with a score of 382.30.
NOTABLES
  • Dan'l Murray was named co-NSISC Coach of the Year. 
  • In the 34-year history of the NSISC Conference, only six women have won the same event all four years of their career. In winning the 200-yard butterfly this season, Celeste Turner becomes the seventh member of the exclusive club. She joins fellow Lady Statesmen Lucia Martelli (100-yard Butterfly), Melanie Tombers (400-yard Individual Medley), and Amanda Guidry (200-yard Butterfly).
  • For the second year in a row, the Lady Statesmen won all five team relays at the conference championships. This is the second time in conference history a women's team has sweep all five team relays in back-to-back years. University of Tampa did it in 2003 and 2004.
