CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's swimming and diving team is off to a great start at the DSU Thanksgiving invite after day one at the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center Friday afternoon.
The Lady Statesmen 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Kaley Davis,
Olivia Murphy,
Ave Owens, and
Zinna Nimander started the evening finals session with a bang as they posted a national qualifying time of 1:33.36. That time also marked a meet record, topping the 2023 team of
Dani Solkow, Mikayla and
Jordon Kloth, and
Kaley Davis' time of 1:33.67.
Delta State would continue to pull ahead throughout the afternoon as they would get a first and third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman
Julia Maciak would take the 500-yard freestyle title with a time of 5:05.99. Teammate
Jessica Gannon would take third place with a time of 5:06.77
In the 200-yard individual medley, DSU would stay up top as four Lady Statesmen would reach the a finals, as they would get a second-place finish from
Hannah Murray and a fourth place finish from
Pia Delkeskamp. Murray would finish with a 2:05.44 time. Delkeskamp would finish with a 2:06.78.
The Lady Statesmen would take advantage in the 50-yard freestyle as five of the eight racers in the finals were DSU swimmers. Nimander and Davis would take the top two spots, Nimander edging Davis by nine hundredths of a second with 23.77 seconds.
The Delta 400 Medley Relay team would take second in their event to finish the first night with a time of 3:50.57, giving them a team score of 587 after day one.
The Thanksgiving invite will be on the Statesmen Sports Network tomorrow and Sunday Afternoon.
