CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State women's swimming and diving team extended their lead on day two of the 2024 Thanksgiving Invite at the Ronald G. Mayers aquatics center Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Statesmen enter the final day of the invite with a 182-point lead over second place Rhodes College in the team standings as the Green and White would get two championships out of freshman swimmer
Zinna Nimander.
Nimander would take the 100-yard butterfly along with the 100-yard backstroke, the lone Lady Statesmen to take an individual title on day two.
Nimander and four other Lady Statesmen swimmers started the evening session strong as Nimander and
Mikayla Kloth would take the top two spots in the 100-yard Butterfly. Nimander would get the meet record with a 55.57 second race. Kloth in second, would finish with a time of 55.97 seconds. Other Lady Statesmen receiving points in the a final were
Pia Delkeskamp,
Kennedy Cleasant and
Olivia Murphy.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Delta State would get a second-place finish from junior
Janne Bodemer. Bodemer would finish with a time of 4:37.41.
In the 200-yard freestyle a final, the Green and White would send three finalists to the pool.
Ave Owens would get second place with a time of 1:52.59.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, the Lady Statesmen would get a second and third-place finish from Delkeskamp and
Hannah Murray. Delkeskamp would finish second with a 1:03.94 time. Murray would finish behind Delkeskamp with a time of 1:04.94.
The 100-yard backstroke final had the pool halfway full of Delta State swimmers. Nimander would grab her second first place finish with a time of 56.06 seconds, followed by Murphy with a time of 56.48.
To finish the evening session, the 200-yard medley relay team of
Kaley Davis,
Pia Delkeskamp,
Zinna Nimander, and
Olivia Murphy took first place with a meet record time of 1:43.06.
The Lady Statesmen will look to finish the weekend strong with the preliminary rounds starting at 10 a.m., tomorrow morning at the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics center. Day three's final session will start at 4 p.m. (CDT).
