Lady Statesmen Win Thanksgiving Invite

Nimander wins most valuable swimmer and Fulton wins most valuable diver

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Freshman Zinna Nimander, and senior diver Reagan Fulton both won most valuable swimmer and most valuable diver as the Delta State University women's swimming and diving team took the team title at the Thanksgiving Invitational in the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center this weekend.
 
Nimander scored 114 team points as she finished first place in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, as well as a member of all three relay teams who had first place finishes throughout the weekend. Nimander was a part of the 200-yard freestyle team that won Friday evening with a national qualifying time of 1:33.36.
 
Fulton ended up sweeping the two diving events as she scored a 408.05 in the 3-meter dive finals on Friday night. On Saturday evening in the 1-meter dive, Fulton would run away with a score of 435.95 points.
 
The Lady Statesmen started the Sunday Final session with a first and second place finish in the mile as junior Jessica Gannon would take first place with a 17:13.57 time. Taking second place was freshman Julia Maciak with a time of 17:28.80.
 
Following the mile, freshman Kennedy Cleasant would get a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Cleasant would finish with a time of 2:05.23.
 
Delta State would get three of four top finishers in the 100-yard freestyle as the most valuable swimmer Nimander would grab second with a 51.82 second race. Ave Owens and Olivia Murphy would take third and fourth place in the final with times of 51.83, and 52.36 seconds.
 
Maciak would get another top three finish in the 200-yard butterfly as she would swim 2:09.75 to take a second-place finish.
 
In the final event, the Delta State 400-yard freestyle relay team would end the evening with a first-place finish logging a 3:25.88 time to conclude the invitational.
 
The Lady Statesmen will be back on December 14 in the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics Center as they will host their annual Christmas meet.
