CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's swimming and diving team took second place at the 2024 Delta State Christmas Invite at the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics center from Saturday to Tuesday.
The Lady Statesmen had a team score of 1,786.5 points. West Florida won the team title with a score of 2,196.5 points.
Day Three
Delta State had three second place finishers on day three starting with
Pia Delkeskamp finishing in second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:03.48 time.
Hannah Murray would finish third in the same event with a time of 1:04.13.
Kaley Davis had a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in an exciting finish with a time of 55.72 seconds.
Olivia Murphy would finish in third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.15 seconds.
The Lady Statesmen 400-yard medley relay team of Davis, Delkeskamp,
Mikayla Kloth, and
Zinna Nimander finished the night with a second-place finish with a time of 3:46.64
In the 100-yard butterfly, Kloth would finish in third, finishing in 55.03 seconds.
Ave Owens would finish in fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.77
Julia Santiago would finish in 5
th place in the 400-yard medley with a time of 4:35.13.
Day Four
The Lady Statesmen had two first-place finishes in the final day ending the meet on a strong note.
Ave Owens won the 100-yard freestyle with a 50.66 second finish. The Lady Statesmen took first and second place in the 200-yard butterfly as junior
Janne Bodemer won the a final with a 2:02.26 time. Fellow Lady Statesmen
Julia Santiago finished in second place with a time of 2:03.98.
Freshman
Kennedy Cleasant finished in second place in the 200-yard back stroke in an exciting race with a time of 2:04.27.
Hannah Murray would finish in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:20.30 time.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of
Zinna Nimander,
Olivia Murphy,
Tristen Fant, and
Ave Owens finished in second with a time of 3:27.17.
Freshman
Joanna Anderson finished in sixth in the mile race with a time of 17:42.93.
The Lady Statesmen will be back in action as they hit the road on Saturday, Jan. 4 to face the Falcons from Montevallo.
