WEST POINT, Miss. – Delta State University Men's Golfer
Ty Werynski became the first Statesmen Golfer to finish first in a tournament since 2020 as the Statesmen finished third in the Sam Dunning Invitational this morning at the Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point.
Werynski shot nine birdies leading to a 65 (-7) in the final round putting him at a three-round total of 207 (-9), finishing two strokes ahead of the runner up Drew Zielinski from Lee University. Werynski's first place finish marks the first individual championship won by a Statesmen golfer since Landon Cottrell won the Foreman invitational back on October 13, 2020.
The Statesmen as a team finished in third place, shooting 882 (+18) in the tournament. Fellow Ontario native
Peter Blazevic earned a top ten finish shooting a 71 (-1) in the third round to earn a three-round total of 216 (Even).
Delta State will head to Hot Springs, Ark., next week as they will participate in the Battle for the Belt hosted by Henderson State on Monday and Tuesday at the Hot Springs Country Club.
