DSU Swimming & Diving splits with OBU

CLEVELAND - The Delta State University Lady Statesmen Swimming & Diving team defeated Ouachita Baptist University, while the Statesmen lost a tight contest to the Tiger Sharks Saturday at the DSU Aquatics Center.

The Lady Statesmen started the meet off on the right foot, winning the 400 yard medley relay as the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen celebrated Senior Day. The group of Alyce Meador, Hannah Boudreaux, Amanda Guidry and Samantha Fajardo took first with a mark of 4:02.07.

Freshman Piper Marshburn grabbed a distance win with the 1000 yard freestyle, swimming in a NCAA B-cut time of 10:44.33. Samantha Fajardo, Alyce Meador and Stormi Valentine finished one, two and three in the 50 yard freestyle.

A couple of events later the Lady Statesmen did it again when senior Amanda Guidry, freshman Stephanie Gonzalez and senior Rebecca Glass took one, two and three in the 200 yard butterfly with Guidry finishing in a NCAA B-cut time of 2:08.87.

Senior Hannah Willis celebrated Senior Day in style with a win in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.49. Freshman Hannah Boudreaux took the 200 yard breaststroke just a few events later with a mark of 2:30.71. In the ladies last event, they took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay when Mary Katherine Waddell, Dawn Thomson, Piper Marshburn and Samantha Fajardo touched the wall in 3:42.65.

Even though the Statesmen fell to Ouachita Baptist, they got another strong swim from Wolfgang Mairinger. He won the 1000 yard freestyle with a NCAA B-cut time o 9:41.17. He would later win the 500 yard freestyle in 4:42.82.

In the 200 yard freestyle Adam Dajka finished second but swam well enough for a NCAA B-cut time of 1:43.21. Adam Milecz finished right behind him in 1:43.97.

Justin Ingvoldstad lost by thirteen tenths of a second in the 50 yard freestyle to OBU's Radu Badalac, but finished in a NCAA B-cut time of 21.26.

Two Statesmen grabbed NCAA B-cut times in with 100 yard freestyle when Adam Milecz and Justin Ingvoldstad finished second and third at 46.39 and 46.80 respectively. Adam Dajka took second in the 200 yard backstroke but qualified for Nationals with a NCAA B-cut time  of 1:53.72.

The Lady Statesmen and Statesmen will hit the pool again on January 23rd when they travel to Atlanta, GA. to swim against Emory University and Wingate University.
