Dajka, Guidry and Willis lead DSU Swimming & Diving versus Emory and Wingate

ATLANTA, Ga. –
The Delta State University Swimming & diving teams faced some stiff competition Saturday at Emory University, as the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen competed against EU and Wingate University in a tri-meet at Eagles Aquatics Center.

Emory, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III, won both meets over the No. 5 Statesmen and No. 8 Lady Statesmen. The Lady Statesmen swam past Wingate, while the WU edged the Statesmen on the men's side. Complete scores are below.

Hannah Willis, a senior All-American from Pensacola, Fla., led the Lady Statesmen right out of the gate with the win in the 100-Back to start the meet. Willis hit the boards in 1:00.42 to take first, with All-American and Cleveland native Alyce Meador finishing third in 1:01.35.
Willis also claimed the win in the 200-Back by nearly three seconds, 2:08.50 to 2:11.45, over Wingate's Malin Kesmark.

All-American and Cut Off, La., native Amanda Guidry blistered the field for the win in the 200-Butterfly in 2:09.78, while taking third place with a 59.65.

Freshman Piper Marshburn finished second in the 500-Free with a time of 5:18.95. Dawn Thomson was also impressive in the event, taking third with a 5:22.41.

Other top individual performances included: Hannah Boudreaux's second place finish in the 200-Breaststroke (2:33.98), Mary Katherine Waddell's third place finish in the 200-Free (1:58.87) and Sam Fajardo's third place in the 50-Free (24.86).

The Lady Statesmen also claimed first place in the 400-Free relay with a 3:45.17. Waddell led off the event followed by Marshburn, Fajardo and Thomson.

For the Statesmen, the day belonged to freshman Adam Dajka. The freshman from Budapest, Hungary won two events and took second in another to lead DSU on Saturday.

In the 100-Back, Dajka blazed through the field for first with a 52.53. He just missed the win the 200-Free, taking second in a time of 1:43.13, but finished his day on a high note – winning the 200-Back in 1:54.06.

All-American Wolfgang Mairinger cruised to the win in the 1650-Free in 15:59.76 for Delta State's only other win in an event.

Adam Milecz also swam well for DSU, posting a second place finish in the 100-Free (47.17), and finishing third in both the 200-Free (1:44.37).

In other top performances, Waldemar Juschin was third in the 100-Breaststroke (59.50) with Alex Lorenz taking third in the 100-Butterfly (53.26) and third in 200-Butterfly (1:58.91).

With Saturday's meet the final of the regular season, Delta State begins postseason action at the annual New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships Feb. 10-13 in Cleveland at the DSU Aquatics Center.
