Cougar Invitational Final Results
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Senior
Zach Zediker fell one stroke short of his seventh career individual title, shooting a one-over, 72 to claim second at the Aflac Cougar Invitational on Tuesday at the Country Club of Columbus.
Zediker held a three-stroke lead following tournament record nine-under, 62 in the second round but was tied with Georgia Southwestern's Vincent Norman going into the final hole. Norman birdied his final hole to take the individual title with a seven-under, 206, one stroke ahead of Zediker and Columbus State's Jordan Doull's six-under, 207.
"There are a lot of positives to take away from the week," Delta State Head Coach
Easton Key said. "I learned a lot of what this team is made of this week. We struggled in the first round but we showed some resilience and came back with the lowest round of the tournament the second round. Two of our three rounds we didn't have any scores under par and still beat three top 10 teams in the country so I'm proud of the way the guys fought. We are ready to get back home and take care of business at our home tournament in two weeks and carry this momentum into the rest of the season."
Delta State shot a five-over, 289 in the final round to finish with a plus-eight, 860 team aggregate score. The Statesmen finished tied for seventh with Valdosta State University.
Zach Smith finished 24
th, shooting a two-over, 73 on the day for a two-over, 215.
Wilson Baker tied for 56
th with a nine-over, 222 followed by
Mitchell Fifer and
Noah Zediker tied for 64
th with an 11-over, 224.
Goergia Southwestern and Florida Southern finished the 54-hole tied for first with a four-under, 848. Norman birdied the first playoff hole of the playoff to give Georgia Southwestern the team championship. Lynn University was third with a three-under, 849 followed by St. Leo at even-par, 852. Host Columbus State and Lee University tied for fifth with a one-over, 853.
Delta State returns to the links hosting the Derrall Foreman Invitational on Oct. 7-8 , 2019 at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Miss.
