Holt, a native of Water Valley, Miss., started at offensive tackle for the Statesmen and coach Horace McCool in 1971 and 1972. Described by his coaches as an animal on the offensive line, Holt turned in a two-year career that culminated with the Associated Press naming him All-American in 1972.
Before the sport began keeping stats on knockdown and performance grades for offensive linemen, Holt was named All-Gulf South Conference and All-Region 27 by the NAIA as a senior. The two-year starter and co-Captain received the Delta State Best Blocker Award in 1972.
