A four-year letterman on the Delta State University football and track teams, White was a standout hurdler for former coach Wig Reily.  A two-time NAIA All-American, the speedster took sixth place at the 1972 NAIA Track and Field Championship in the 120-Yard High Hurdles in Billings, Montana.  He also took first place in the 120-Yard High Hurdles at the Mississippi/Alabama Track and Field Championships.

The Cleveland, Miss., native was named the top Collegiate Hurdler in 1972 and held the Mississippi State High School record in the Low Hurdles from 1969-1988.  White played wide receiver and defensive back for the Statesmen football team as well.

White's top career accomplishment came in 1976 when the former Statesman hurdler represented the United States of America on the Olympic Team in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
